 As the high speed internet remained suspended in the Union Territory (UT), former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has requested Jamia Millia Islami University (JMIU) to look for alternative to online examinations for the students from Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to micro-blogging site twitter president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba said “ Jamia University’s decision to hold  exams in proctored online mode which requires laptops & high speed data for 3 hours is deeply problematic for students hailing from J&K.Request them to look for alternatives so that these bright minds don’t suffer”.

Mobile internet service of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was suspended in majority south Kashmir areas as a precautionary measure for the past few days.

All communication networks, including landlines, were suspended in the Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019 when centre abrogated Article 370 and 35 A and divided the state into two UTs.

However,  landlines were restored after about a month and mobile phones after several months. Low speed 2G mobile internet was restored after over ten months.

However, the high speed 4G internet service remained suspended in the Jammu and Kashmir despite Supreme Court (SC) order on several writ petitions to review ban on 4G internet .
